animals like to have stuff like particular part of a forest bed or a hole in the ground or a favourite tree to pee on.

humans also like to have stuff and declare this ownership - hence the whole property business - but it is more complicated because humans also produce abstract stuff. this is the kind of stuff you can not just hide somewhere or eat. these are ideas.

now when i think about it animals also have plenty of ideas but they are too busy to bother protecting them with copyright. animals do not have time nor incentives to learn how humans communicate. actually there are incentives but they are not aware of them.

if a beavers would learn how to speak human language and would hire a lawyer i am sure they would have a great chance of getting a copyrights, patent or something like that on the concept of a dam. it is clear that beavers have been making dams way before humans so it is their idea.

however, beavers are not so much integrated in every day life of humans and are not aware of this potential for their development. whether beavers are stupid or not is not really clear. it could be that they are isolated and scared. after all they are very small and also they are very focused on their work which allows them a very basic survival and their experiences with humans are quite negative.

but if they could organize themselves to learn to communicate with humans and hire a lawyer and get a copyright on dams and than get a piece of the action from all the dams in the world it would pay off a great deal for them. with all the money beavers could buy an island and hire a ton of humans to take care of them. maybe united nations should recognize them as a nation and they would have their own country financed by the dam copyright. they would build a human army to protect themselves from aggressive humans and other predators. all this would allow enormous progress for the world-wide beaver society and would definitely ensure their survival on planet earth.

how other beavers in universe would do i have no idea. earth offers this dam copyright possibility to earth beavers but only if they take the initiative to start communicating with humans. i personally would be interested in helping beavers find their place in this new world order.
